I did this drawing for someone I was dating “back in the day” as they say. It was a little more mainstream than my other work and I was never completely happy with how it turned out. She no longer has the original (there’s an interesting story as to why) and since I have it on a slide I recently decided to make some changes using Autodesk Sketchbook. Here is the original followed by the updated version.

The first drawing of the new year is finished. And it is the first of many that I will be doing this year. Also ,with the help and support of my wife, we are working on a plan which will help me finish and publish some other projects as well. Most of which will be posted here for your viewing pleasure and updated on a more regular basis. I feel that this year is a good time for improving my art ,trying new ideas and using the talent that God has blessed me with.
Where have I been…

Its been way too long since I posted anything here. But as is sometimes the case its easy to get sidetracked and loose momentum. Despite all that I have some new sketches to post in the mean time I have a drawing I found that was done in 1990 which I like. I will get it together and post things a little more frequently.

I got to hang out with one of my heroes last month and check out some of his recent artwork. He was my art teacher in high school and it was in his class that I truly learned some of the basic, important tools that every artist needs to be successful. Back in those days, we collaborated on a piece when he colored one of my pen and ink drawings. One of the most important lessons I learned was to follow my passion and draw the things that inspired me: science fiction and fantasy art. He retired from Arsenal Tech High School a few years ago but continues to teach part-time. I know he will be an inspiration to others as he was (and is) for me. Thanks, Mr Price.

I used to work in the shipping department at John Harland Check Printers. While at Harland, I worked for a great guy named Jon Pitman. He had a beat-up 24 foot box truck and I used it to take the checks to the post office to mail to customers. Jon also was a sales rep for Classic Auto Tops, who put sunroofs and new upholstery into cars. Since he knew I was an artist, he hired me to do some drawings for him as advertisment for his other business. These are the result.

I hung out with one of my biggest artistic influences today, Mr. Price. He was my high school art teacher and it was in his commercial art class that I matured as an artist. And my understanding of art and a lot of the tools I use today first came about. He had a litho I gave him that I had forgotten about and I wanted to post it here. I did this my second year at The Herron School of Art.
